Conversations

Podcast with Ian Sanders

Ian “I just hit record” Sanders does fantastic work. He interviews all sorts of people to talk about their knowledge and/or memories of the Cold War. This includes authors (such as the excellent Katja Hoyer), military figures, people that escaped over the Berlin Wall, and many more.

What I love about Cold War Conversations is that Ian just lets people talk. People’s memories are incredibly evocative. You can imagine their faces light up as new details come to light. I look forward to it every week.

You can even listen to me talk about Berlin in the Cold War on episode 269.

Explore the beautiful harbour city

Hamburg

With top historical guide Evan Ladd

Hamburg earns a well-deserved second place on the list of my favourite German cities. The port city is home to fascinating history: from 19th-century emigration to the USA, the horrors of WWII firebombing, and the home of the Beatles in their very early days there’s a lot to explore in Hamburg.

While I would love to take you there myself, you’ll be better off with the best guide in Hamburg, Evan Ladd. Evan is a friend of mine, and whenever we meet I’m just in awe of his knowledge. Book him for a day or two and uncover the very best Hamburg has to offer.

Click the button below to get in touch with Evan and organise a day trip to Hamburg from Berlin, or a multi-day itinerary in Hamburg.
